Foreplay First: May 1
**Colorful, highlighted May 2 update: holy DAMN, I am in love with Lilli Feisty and I want to live inside her creative mind. If you haven’t gotten your own copy of BOUND TO PLEASE yet, you must immediately visit a bookstore and lock yourself in your bedroom for five hours.**
Welcome to the inaugural FOREPLAY FIRST post, where we blog about what we’re reading in May…and what you should be reading, too. Authors, please add your new and recent releases in comments; Readers, please let us know what titles are in your to-be-read pile this month.
What Emily’s gonna be reading:

On the Prowl by Crystal Jordan
Simply Shameless by Kate Pearce
The Fire in Fiction by Donald Maass
Hungry Girl 200 under 200 by Lisa Lillien
Bound to Please by Lilli Feisty
Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill
Emily’s Reality Check: Slow reader. Got carried away. Will probably still be reading these books in June (and maybe July) so next month’s Foreplay First? Might be entirely Elise’s reading list. Why am I so weak?
Elise…is still deciding. Comment with your new and upcoming reads and releases to help her choose!’
ETA: Okay, I picked up Tempt me Twice by Eden Bradley and I’ll be going gonzo in the brick and mortar this weekend. wall to wall, baby. – Elise

I thought I had a $20 gift card at Borders, but instead I had 2 – $15 gift cards! I used one today and I’ll let the other keep for a while longer.
So, after using a 25% coupon and a 40% coupon, I picked up STAY THE NIGHT, Lynn Viehl’s last Darkyn novel; FLEDGLING by Octavia Butler, who I’ve never read before (remaindered for $3.99!); and THE MADNESS OF LORD IAN MACKENZIE by Jennifer Ashley. I couldn’t wait for that one, so I’ve already read it! Now I get to sit down and read it again tonight.
I read too fast.
Oh, I also hit the library and picked up THE ACCIDENTAL DEMON SLAYER by Angie Fox, MURDER GAME by Christine Feehan (she’s like crack), and DOWN AND DIRTY by Sandra Hill.
Should keep me busy this weekend. *gg*

What fine choices you have made
I’m giving away some copies of Simply Shameless on my blog this week if anyone wants to pop over

Sela, you’ll like Octavia Butler – she’s brilliant. I highly recommend WILD SEED!
I walked by the Angie Fox book, picking it up and putting it down several times, but my stack was already pretty tall so I had to leave one behind. Tell me how THE MADNESS OF LORD IAN MACKENZIE is when you finish it.
Kate – whoever wins that blog contest will be well pleased!

I have both booktokens (my favorite present of all) to spend, and found out about The Book Depository, a site which not only allows you to buys books in Euros but delivers to Ireland free (an astounding plus we are not used to) but also allows payment by Paypal!!! So many books! How on earth do i choose?
On my TBR I have the sequel to Terry Brooks’ Armageddon’s Children, Elves of Cintra, something called The Voice of the Wind and Gena Showalters’ The Darkest Pleasure (as well as a number of other ebooks). I have so many built up. Like you Em – a reader’s version of eyes bigger than the stomach.
As for releases – I’ve nothing now until “Soul Fire”, my Sidhe/Irish folklore based paranormal romance comes out in July, but The Wolf’s Sister and The Scroll Thief are available if you haven’t read them.

I’m currently reading Life On Planet Rock by Lonn Friends as part of my recent binge on rock star bios (it’s research I tell you!)I was thinking about rereading Connie Willis’ Impossible Things when I was finished, but now that Octavia Butler’s been mentioned, I might have to change that plan. So many options, so little reading time!
I also have a new release coming Monday. I’m very excited to see Three Alarm Tenant come out from Lyrical Press, especially after Emma Wayne Porter “punished” me for having written such a good book by demanding book 2 immediately.

Currently I’m reading Up The Organization – How To Stop The Corporation From Stifling People And Strangling Profits. It’s a very funny and wise book about how to run a business as if your employees and customers mattered. It has chapters like the one entitled, ‘Are You Really Worth $250,000 A Year’ with the question directed at the CEO of a company. The answer is ‘no’.
The author ran Avis back when it was #2 and tried harder. So he has some idea of what he’s talking about.
My latest release just came out today. Breaking The Covenants was released by Aspen Mountain Press. It’s the first book of The Vampire Covenants Trilogy and it was a lot of fun to write. It should be just as much fun to read.

I’m reading Time Transit by Kay Austin and Invasion Earth by Loribelle Hunt. Feeling a need to get my futuristic fix.
My first release is at the end of the month. Wolf-Bitten, which was nothing but fun for me to write.

i just finished vaughan’s white star, which i adored. she finally got an ending right. i love her stuff, but tends to end with too much lingering angst for me. i can do happy for now, but she writes a lot of happy for now with this big looming/unresolved shadow… anyway, i’ve been digging the luna line and reading lots of fantasy lately.
