Thursday Thirteen – Pimpin’ the Release Version
Next week – on Monday Dec 7 – we have a new release. This Fire is the first published joint project by Emily and myself, and it’s paired with Ella Drake’s story Firestorm on E’Terra for the December Hearts Afire anthology from Liquid Silver Books. So this Thursday, I thought I’d give you a little peek. An excerpt of 13 lines from This Fire:
Eden Thomas had never given much thought to romantic relationships – until Seth Ripley. But Eden has secrets she won’t tell, and soon Seth’s demands for the truth push Eden into a corner – betray her best friend or watch Seth walk away.
1-13.
A fog crept in off the river, isolating them and making the canal seem almost surreal.
Eden began to relax. She was pleasantly surprised to find she could relax around him. The rhythmic sound of the water, the distant sounds of traffic muffled by fog, and the mellow pace Seth set for their walk combined to ease the sexual tension she felt between them.
“What made you decide to transfer to Alexandria?” She asked, glancing up at his profile.
His jaw tightened and relaxed, so quickly she decided she’d imagined the tension. His tone, when he answered, was easy and relaxed. “I graduated from Georgetown and spent a lot of time driving back and forth between D.C. and Philadelphia, where my parents are, when I was in college. I like D.C.”
“Don’t you miss the cheese steaks?”
He snorted quietly. “Sacrifices had to be made.”
I hope that whets your appetite. Just a few more days and you can have the whole enchilada.

I agree with Shelley – that’s a great place to leave off in a teaser. It really shows us the character and sets the tone.

It was Em’s idea – the idea of using 13 lines as an excerpt. I thieved it. You’ll see hers next week.
But, no, I didn’t have to modify it at all. I did, however, do some hunting to find a place where 13 lines made a good excerpt.
